“I have been involved in water sports my whole life, both on and in the ocean. In recent years I have begun to understand what a catastrophe plastic in the oceans has become. For a few years I had been looking for something to do that would give back and also be fun and fulfilling to me. The catalyst came in 2017 on Maui. A large ball of fishing net washed up on the beach where we were staying near Lahaina. It was breaking down into smaller pieces and there were thousands of small pieces in the surf line and farther out. I spent two full days in the water picking all those pieces up and with my wife’s help we organized a local guy and some friends to get the fishing net off the beach.
